Mikasa Beach Pro BV550C Volleyball — Official FIVB Ball
The Mikasa Beach Pro BV550C is the official ball of FIVB beach volleyball — the same ball used in Olympic beach play.
It is also the most environmentally considered ball Mikasa has built. Mikasa states that the cover uses synthetic leather with recycled nylon — the first application of recycled nylon in the company's history — and that solvent-based inks are no longer used in production. The cover is synthetic, so there is no animal leather in it, and a ball built to last seasons means fewer replacements.
- Official FIVB match ball, used in Olympic beach volleyball
- Cover: synthetic leather incorporating recycled nylon (manufacturer-stated)
- Solvent-based inks eliminated from production (manufacturer-stated)

Why this pick matters
The most overlooked spec in sports gear is lifespan: a ball that lasts five seasons replaces five one-season balls. The BV550C is the official FIVB beach volleyball, built for exactly that kind of service life.
An estimated 8 million metric tons of plastic enter the ocean every year (Jambeck et al., Science, 2015). Most sports gear is still made from virgin plastic or animal leather — every product on this page was chosen because its maker does it differently.
