Wilson Basketball Evolution & NXT Pro's:
Wilson basketballs are revered as the premier basketball in the sport. But there are a lot of great basketballs out there. So why is the Wilson Evolution the most popular ball in basketball.
The Wilson Evolution and NXT do a great job of creating a soft feel of the ball, while maintaining a good grip and good bounce. The soft feel also absorbs sweat well creating a dry feel of the ball. The basketball community loves the feel of microfiber evolution feel. Wilson is also the official sponsor of the NBA basketball. That basketball tends to have a harder feel than the Evolution or NXT. The NXT is also the official ball of NCAA March Madness. You were able to see Uconn Mens Team & Caitlin Clark dominate with the NXT.
Spalding TF 1000 Basketball Pro's:
Due to Wilsons dominance, Spalding has converted their main basketball, the TF 1000 to a Microfiber Composite as well. It used to have a firmer feel which converted well with the people who didn't like the Wilson Ball. But now it has a lot of the great traits of the Evolution. The soft feel, great bounce, tacky material, sweat absorbent, and sleek design.
Wilson Basketball & Spalding Basketball Con's:
While Wilson & Spalding produces a quality ball, there are still things Wilson and Spalding can improve on. The microfiber Composite material that Wilson uses contains BPA's & Phthalates that our skin does not love. Although Wilson is unclear but "Composite Leather" means they still use animal leather in their composite or there other balls which is cruel to animals and contributing to one of the leading causes of Climate Change in Animal Agriculture. Plus microfibers break down into microplastics that are dangerous for humans.
Also the Wilson balls tend to be a tad lighter than other balls which is hard if you are switching balls often. Often times a non Wilson ball will feel heavier because Wilson is lighter than standard balls.
Lastly the price of a Wilson Evolution Ball or Spalding is getting out of hand. Basketball is so great because it is easy access for everyone to play. By pricing your basketball over $80 it really limits who has access to your ball. They do have cheaper options but the quality drastically decreases.
