Why Is It Called Pickleball - The origin of the name "pickleball"

Pickleball is a sport that is enjoyed by people of all ages. It is a paddle sport that is played on a badminton-sized court with a modified tennis net. The game can be played as singles or doubles. Pickleball is a fun and relatively easy sport to learn, which might explain why it has become so popular in recent years. But have you ever wondered why the sport is called "pickleball"? Read on to find out!

The origin of the name "pickleball" is actually quite interesting. The sport was created in 1965 by Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum. Pritchard and his family were on vacation when they came up with the idea for the game. Pritchard's wife suggested that they come up with a new game that the whole family could play together. They came up with the idea of using Ping-Pong paddles and a Wiffle ball, and the game of pickleball was born!

So how did the game get its name? legend has it that Pritchard's wife named the game after their family dog, Pickles. Pickles would often chase after the ball when they were playing together, so she thought it would be fitting to name the game after him. And that's how pickleball got its name!

Pickleball is a fun sport that can be enjoyed by people of all ages. It is named after a family dog who would chase after the ball whenever they played together. If you're looking for a fun and easy sport to pick up, then look no further than pickleball!

Myth about the name of pickleball: Some people think it is called pickleball because in rowing the last place team is called The pickle. Because of pickleballs relaxed nature, it gets mistakenly named after this. NOT TRUE.
