When Was Pickleball Invented - The History of Pickleball

When Was Pickleball Invented - The History of Pickleball

The game of pickleball was invented in 1965 by three dads—Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum—in Bainbridge Island, Washington. They created the game as a way for their families to enjoy time together. The name "pickleball" comes from the Pritchard family's dog, Pickles, who would chase after the ball whenever they played.

Pickleball is a fun, relatively new sport that can be played by people of all ages. It's a great way to get some exercise and enjoy time with family or friends. But when was pickleball invented? Let's take a look.

Pickleball quickly became popular in the Pritchard household and soon spread to other families on the island. In 1976, the first official pickleball court was built in Seattle, Washington. From there, the game continued to grow in popularity and is now playable in all 50 states and many countries around the world.

Quick Breakdown of Playing Pickleball

Pickleball is played on a badminton-sized court with a net that is slightly lower than a tennis net. The game can be played with doubles or singles. Each player uses a paddle to hit a perforated plastic ball or Eco Sports Eco Friendly Pickleball over the net into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to score points by landing the ball in the opponent's court so that they are unable to return it.

Pickleball can be played indoors or outdoors. If you're playing outdoors, you'll need a hard surface such as concrete or asphalt; if you're playing indoors, you can use any type of flooring including hardwood, tile, or carpet.

One of the great things about pickleball is that it can be enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. Whether you're just getting started or you're looking for a competitive edge, there's a place for you in this growing sport.

So there you have it—the history of pickleball and how to play this fun sport! Whether you're young or old, pickleball is a great way to exercise and spend time with family or friends. What are you waiting for? Get out there and give it a try!
