How to Measure a Baseball Glove

How to Measure a Baseball Glove

When looking to purchase a new baseball glove, you want to make sure that you find the right fit. Your glove should fit snugly and comfortably on your hand.

Too big of a glove can make it harder to use and may result in missing an important catch and even possibly falling off, while a one that is too small can be uncomfortable and make it difficult to properly move your hand within the glove.

Having a properly fitting glove will not only help you feel more confident leading into a game, but directly affects your ability to play well on the field.

How to Size a Baseball Glove

Baseball gloves come in many different forms and sizes. The materials used, amount of padding, size of the pocket, and style of webbing are just a few of the numerous variations found in different baseball gloves that may make a player prefer one over the other.

However, there is a standard way of measuring baseball gloves that can be used to help find the proper size. For most gloves, the sizing is based on the distance between the tip of the index finger to the heel of the glove, which is at the base palm near the wrist. Because a catcher's mitt does not have the same individual fingers like the gloves for other positions, the size of a catcher's mitt is based on the circumference of the glove, so these sizes will appear differently.

The average size of a major league baseball glove is around 11 to 13 inches, and for a catcher's mitt, around 32 to 35 inches, and as you would assume, youth glove sizes can be a lot smaller. They can often run from

You can easily measure your hand size with a ruler or a small measuring tape, but you really should try on a glove to ensure a proper fit and find the right tool to ensure your pest performance on the field.
