How To Draw A Soccer Ball?

How To Draw A Soccer Ball?

How to draw a soccer ball seems easy until you actually try to draw the pattern. That’s where it can get tricky!

Soccer balls are fun to play with but can be unfamiliar to draw. The traditional soccer ball is made from two flat shapes, pentagons and hexagons. A pentagon, of course, is a five-sided polygon, while a hexagon has six sides.

Soccer balls are a little more complex to draw than a basketball or football, thanks to all their hexagon shapes. Some more thought is involved, but that’s not to say it can’t be done with a little help. This tutorial directs students in how to start their pattern with a center hexagon, and then gradually work out until their entire ball is filled with a pattern. Color the black hexagon shapes first with a black crayon, and then trace the other seam lines with a light gray crayon. The result is a nice subtle shadow that gives the ball slightly padded look.

DIRECTIONS

You just need a pencil, pen or marker and sheet of paper. And of course feel free to color it in afterwards.

First, draw a big circle in the middle of the page. This is the outline of the soccer ball.

Next, draw pentagon (5-sided shape) in the middle of the circle. Do your best to keep the sides the same length as each other.

Then draw one line out from each of the 5 corners of the pentagon. The lines should end about halfway to the edge of the circle.

Now split the lines into a Y-shape. Draw the new lines long enough so that they come close, but do not touch the edge of the circle.

Connect each line to the edge of the ball with another short line in the opposite direction. This will create 5 new “flat” pentagon shapes around the edge of the soccer ball/football.

Now connect the corners of each of the new pentagons with the ones next to them. These lines will create hexagon (6-sided) shapes in between each of the pentagons.

Color or fill in the shapes. I filled in the pentagons shapes with my marker, but feel free to color in your ball with whatever colors and patterns you think will look cool. If you have a ball at home you can even try to copy that.

Add some actions lines to finish! This will make it look like the soccer ball/football is coming out of the page!

Fill in the black portions of the ball. We then lightly shaded the rest of the ball. You can use a tissue afterwards to soften the part you shaded.

Use an eraser to erase the lines.

Shade the actual lines, by making it darker in some places.

Darken the outer portions of the ball a bit,This will make the ball appear rounded.

Outlined the ball…but if you want it super realistic, don’t do that.Use a white or yellow pencil to add a glow to the center black spot on the ball.Draw and shade in a partial circle below the ball. Use a tissue to smudge it, especially around the edges.
