Can You Block A Serve In Volleyball?

Volleyball is a high intensity sport. Although there are plenty of rules that must be followed. Among them is,

FIVB, in their rules, says that: 

IT'S ILLEGAL TO BLOCK ON A SERVE.

It is against the rules of Volleyball to touch the net. If you do this, your opponent receives one point.

According to the FIVB's official rules, you are not allowed to block or attack a serve when the ball is above the top of the net – if the ball is not above the top of the net, complete an attack hits directly. However, to legally prevent an attack by the opposing team.

No player may make an attack hit immediately after the opponent's service if the ball is in the front zone and entirely above the top of the net.

Volleyball serves classified into four types: underhead serve, floater serve, topspin serve, and jump serve. Different players recruit various techniques, but the most common are floater, topspin, and jump. It would be complicated to block or attack the serve because the ball is rarely hit, and its trajectory is difficult to predict.

Balls that have been served using these techniques float in the air. It gives the opponent more time to set up a block or attack. However, blocking those types of serves would be detrimental to the overall volleyball experience. I believe that blocking and spiking slack balls would ruin the game and make it incredibly dull.

The most crucial aspect of your situation is your position. It would be best if you ideally stood right next to the net. Then you must pay close attention to which direction the ball is moving. Change your position if possible, and then jump to attack or serve the ball at the appropriate time. That is all there is to it.

Of course, if you attack the ball immediately after the other team serves, they will win one point. If you do it regularly, one can get a red card and not play again in the game anymore.

On a professional level, at the very least. Everyone in the game is aware that it is illegal, and no one does it.

From personal experience, I know that many newcomers do it. And it's completely normal; I felt the same way when I started playing Volleyball: I wanted to win the point for my team by doing something illegal.

When you block a serve, you commit an error. As a result, your team loses one point. If it were legal, the entire game experience would be considerably worse. It is not difficult to disable the service, but professional players do not do so.
